Exports, backups, and leaving
Everything you write is stored as plain, readable text files that are yours to keep, and there are three ways to take a full copy with you: while your campaign is running, and for thirty days after it stops.
While your campaign is live
From your campaign's own admin page, as the DM, you can download any or all of three things, any time you like:
- Campaign data: characters, encounters, and settings, as a database export.
- Your pages, as files: every page as a plain text file, laid out in ordinary folders and handed to you as one zip. Open them in any editor, or keep them as folders on your own drive. There is nothing to install, and they keep working if you ever walk away from us.
- Your pages as a pack: the same content bundled into a single file you can import into another Hearthmoot campaign, or hand to someone else. Player sheets and portraits stay out of this one; use the files export above for those.
Together, the data export and the files export are the entire campaign.
After you cancel
Cancelling does not touch your data on the spot. Once the campaign has stopped running, the exports come from your account page as a single download. The published timetable:
- Paid period ends. The campaign stops running. Nothing is deleted, and a payment brings it straight back.
- Until day 30. Your full export, every page plus the campaign database, stays one click away on your account page.
- Day 60. The campaign is deleted from our live systems. This cannot be undone.
- Day 90. It is gone from the backups too, and the key that encrypted them is destroyed.
Pausing a campaign yourself is a separate switch that does not start this clock. See account & billing for the difference.
Backups
Your campaign is backed up automatically every night, and each backup is verified by being read back before that night's run is called good. This is a safety net against accidents on our side; it does not replace keeping your own copy. There is no uptime guarantee on a hosted service this size. The exports above exist for that reason, and cost nothing to run whenever you want them.
The formal versions of these promises live in the privacy policy and the subscription terms, both on the legal page.
